How do you decide which outlets to trust on foreign conflicts?

Journalism student here, and this is basically my whole seminar this semester, but I want to hear from normal readers and not only from my professors.

When there is a war or a big crisis far from your country, how do you pick who to believe? Do you go with your national broadcaster, a big international one, or outlets from the region itself? I notice I trust local outlets more for the details (names of towns, who said what) but less for the framing, because they are often part of the conflict in some way.

Also curious if anyone actually reads two or three versions of the same story like on here, or if that is just a nerd thing that only I do.
