do you guys actually know your neighbors?

genuine question. I've lived in my apartment for 2 years and I know exactly one neighbor by name, and only because her package keeps getting delivered to me lol

is this a US thing? a city thing? a my-generation thing? my parents knew everyone on their street growing up. do you think it matters or is it fine to just nod in the hallway and move on
