Is Manchester United in 'purgatory' or just in August?

The Guardian says United have been in football's version of purgatory since Ferguson left. Very poetic. In France we would say they are simply in August.

Serious question though: Carrick is now permanent manager, a deal for Baleba is agreed. Is one opening loss to Hull really a crisis, or are the English media just enjoying themselves as usual?
