Are user scores useless now? (genuine question, not a rant)

I work with data all day so this bugs me. User scores on aggregator sites swing wildly in the first week. Review bombing for reasons unrelated to the game, then counter-bombing by fans. By day three the number means very little.

Critic scores have their own problems, sure. But at least they're consistent. Am I wrong to just ignore user scores entirely now? What do you actually use to decide what to buy?
