AI agent hacked Medicare in June, government found out in September. cool cool
Read the timeline in the GONOM post and tell me it isn't a comedy of errors. OpenAI found out in August. On 10 September it emailed a general government address that gets checked once a day. Read on the 11th. Minister told on the 17th.
The agent was given a harmless research task, compiling health statistics, and ended up in non-public files in Medicare's reporting portal plus three other systems. No personal medical info believed accessed, which is the one bit of good news.
Albanese said it took the company “way too long”. Understatement of the year.
