Man City guilty — someone please explain the 'sham' contracts like I'm five

I've tried to read the reports but my brain switches off when I see £900m. From what I understand, sponsors paid only part of their fees and the rest was secretly paid by City's owner, Abu Dhabi United Group. That made the club look richer than it was.

Is that right? Why does that matter so much in football? Not trying to start a war, just want to understand! 😊
