What actually happens to Man City now? Expulsion really possible?

I read the ITV Granada part. Penalties go from a reprimand to expulsion. That is a very wide range.

City say "conspiracy" and will appeal. So how long before we know the sanction? Months? Years? I want to understand both sides before I judge.
