Is my phone really listening to me for ads? My wife swears it is

Linda talked about needing new gutters at dinner. Next morning her phone shows gutter ads. She's now convinced the phone is a spy and has started whispering in the kitchen.

I fix engines, not phones. Is it listening or is there another explanation? Settle this before she puts tape over the microphone. Actually she already did.
