ofrenda season has begun in my house

Día de Muertos is coming and my mom already took over the living room. Marigolds, papel picado, photos of everyone who's gone, and their favourite foods. My grandpa gets a cold beer and his cigarettes every year, the doctor in heaven can't stop him now.

People abroad sometimes think it's Mexican Halloween. It's really not, it's more like a family reunion where some guests are invisible. Anyone else have something similar?
