PSA (US): check your voter registration status before you need it

Quick one since the midterms are close. Every cycle I hear from friends who show up and find out their registration was moved, purged, or never processed after they changed address.

Every state has an official lookup page through the secretary of state or the elections office. Search your state's name plus 'voter registration status' and make sure you land on a .gov site, not some random third party that wants your email.

If you moved, even inside the same county, double check your polling place too. Rules for ID, mail ballots and deadlines are very different state to state, so don't take advice from a cousin in another state as gospel. Including me.
