The friends list gets quieter as you get older

I logged on last weekend and noticed that of the twenty or so people on my friends list, only two had been online in the past month. Most are old school mates who joined during lockdowns. Life picked back up, and gaming went quiet for them.

It's not a complaint exactly, just an observation. Gaming used to be how I kept in touch with people I wouldn't otherwise ring. I've been thinking about whether to make new gaming friends at this age, and how one even does that without feeling a bit silly.

Do others find this? And has anyone made genuine friends through games later in life?
