A classicist wins the Nobel the same year Homer topped the charts
Anne Carson winning the Nobel feels very on-theme for 2026. A few weeks ago we had the post about The Odyssey's sales jumping after the Nolan film, and now the prize goes to a poet who spent her life in 'playful dialogue with the classical tradition'.
Autobiography of Red is the usual starting point, a Greek myth retold as a novel in verse. Also I love that she was in Iceland 'listening to the wind' when they called. The most poet answer possible.
Who here has read her? I've only read bits for a class.
