is a peace prize for a judge a statement about international law itself?
Lawyer here, so I'm biased. Navi Pillay, 85, won the Nobel peace prize. Defended Mandela under apartheid, served on the Rwanda tribunal and the ICC, now sits on the ICJ. The committee said international law is "under tremendous pressure".
To me that framing matters more than the individual. It reads like the committee using the prize to defend the institutions themselves. Is that a fair reading? And is that a good use of the prize?
