Crackdown or procedure? The Cockroach leaders story depends on who you read
The GONOM post on Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka being released is a great example of framing. The Guardian calls it part of a mounting crackdown on youth-led protests. The Week walks through the steps: detention at Jantar Mantar (no longer a designated protest venue), alleged breach of earlier peace bonds, police asking for three more days, and the magistrate releasing them on sureties instead.
Both can be true. You can have a crackdown that's carried out entirely through ordinary procedure. In my view that's actually how most modern crackdowns work: no dramatic moment, just paperwork, closed venues and conditions on bail.
Curious what others make of it, especially anyone with a legal background.
