Ask for a raise now or wait until new year?

I am mechanic, 4 years at same garage. Prices everywhere up, my pay same for 2 years. Boss is ok person but business also not easy.

Should I ask now, before the end of year, or wait for new year when he plans budget? I don't want to look greedy.
