What exactly is a 'peace bond'?

In the GONOM post about the two Cockroach movement leaders, The Week says police claimed they had broken peace bonds they'd signed earlier, and the court released them after they pledged not to breach the peace or call for protests at Jantar Mantar while it stays closed.

I've seen the term before but realise I don't actually know what it means legally. Is it like bail? A promise? Something with money attached? And do other countries use them?
