Mbappe and China: why did Real Madrid apologise too?

I understand Mbappe apologising for the joke about Mao. I live in Taiwan so I see both sides of how sensitive this is. But then La Liga apologised, Tebas set up a crisis unit and met the ambassador, and Real Madrid said sorry "to the Chinese people".

Why does a club apologise for a player's comment on a podcast? Is it only business, because of sponsors and the Migu broadcast? What do you think?
