Why are there so few young people in parliaments?

In India the average MP is well over 50, while our country is one of the youngest in the world! Same story in a lot of places I think.

Is it money? Party loyalty taking decades? Or do young people just not want the job? I'm a student and honestly I'd love to see more people my age run, even at the local level!

Do any of your countries do this better?
