apartment composting: worth it or am i just growing fruit flies

started a little countertop compost bin in august. my building has no green bin and the nearest community garden drop-off is a 20 min walk.

so far: two fruit fly invasions, one smell incident my roommate will never let go. but also way less trash going out and it feels good.

do people actually stick with this or does everyone quit by winter
