Can we still enjoy a film if we dislike the person who made it?

In my classes we often discuss this, and I still do not have a clear answer myself.

On one side, a film is made by hundreds of people, not just one director or star. Refusing to watch it punishes all of them. On the other side, buying a ticket puts money in the pocket of someone who may have hurt people.

I know this is a big topic and people feel strongly. I am interested in how you personally decide. Do you have a line? Does it matter if the person is alive and still earning from it?
