Who takes care of ageing parents in your country?

My mother is 82 and lives with my brother's family in Pune. I live in another city. We share costs but the daily work falls on my sister-in-law, which honestly is not fair to her, and she never complains.

In India it is still expected that children take care of parents at home. Care homes exist but many families feel shame using them. I can see both the good and the bad of our system.

How does it work in your country? State care, family care, paid helpers? And is it changing with smaller families?
