Phone-free mornings are overrated (for me, at least)

Every productivity article tells you not to look at your phone for the first hour after waking. I tried it for a month, properly, phone in another room, a real alarm clock and everything.

Result: my mornings were not calmer. I was anxious about client messages I might be missing, and when I finally checked at 8am there were twelve of them and I started the day behind. As a freelancer, my phone is my office.

What did work: no social media before lunch. Messages and email are fine, the feeds are not. The difference for me was the infinite scrolling, not the phone itself.

I think a lot of habit advice is written for people with office jobs and predictable hours. Has anyone else found that a 'famous' habit just didn't fit their life?
