The vegetation data point in the Brasília story deserves more attention
I went down a bit of a rabbit hole with the Free Land Encampment post. Everyone's talking about the skull sculptures, understandably, but the bit in the Boston Globe framing that stuck with me was the data showing Indigenous lands lost far less native vegetation than private land.
That's quite a strong argument in a debate that usually gets framed as rights versus development. If protected land is also doing a better job of keeping forest standing, it's not really a trade-off at all for the climate side of things. Curious whether anyone knows more about where that data comes from.
