How start investing with very small money?

I am software engineer in Taipei. I can save maybe 5000 NTD every month after rent. Is too small to invest?

My coworkers buy single stocks, mostly chip companies. I am scared because I don't know when to buy or sell.

What do you do when you start? Is ETF better? Please explain simple, my English not so good.
