Game Talk
Are game subscriptions actually good for players in the long run?
Game Pass, PS Plus, Ubisoft+ and so on. Everyone frames them as 'great value', and month to month they often are. But I'm skeptical about what they do long term.
Two worries. First, when a game is in a catalogue, you don't own it, and it can leave. Second, if the money is mostly paid for 'engagement', do studios end up designing for time spent instead of for quality? The music and TV industries went through this already, and it wasn't great for creators.
I'd like to hear from people who think I'm wrong.
