are phone games "real" gaming? I can see both sides

This comes up at work a lot. Some of the guys at the shop say mobile games don't count. But here in the Philippines a lot of people's first and only gaming device is a phone, and some of those games are very competitive.

On the other hand, I get the complaint about energy timers and paying to win. That part does feel different from buying a game once.

Where do you land? I think the device doesn't matter, the design does.
