The BBC's point about petrol prices changed how I think about my shopping

I read the GONOM post comparing NPR and the BBC on grocery prices. The NPR list of items (ground beef, eggs, chocolate chip cookies) was interesting, but the part that stayed with me was the BBC saying the September inflation rise in the UK was mainly from petrol and diesel, not the supermarket.

I work in logistics in Incheon, so I know fuel is inside the price of almost everything. But I never connected it with my own shopping trip. I drive to a big mart on weekends because it is 'cheaper'. Maybe not, if I add the fuel.

I think this is a nice way to read two outlets together: one looks inside the basket, one looks at the road to the shop. Does anyone here actually calculate the travel cost of their shopping?
