Festival season: do you travel home or stay put?

Festival season is starting in India and as every year my family group chat is planning who goes where. Trains are full, flights are expensive, everyone is tired.

Some years I go, some years I stay. Each time someone is a little hurt.

In your culture, is there a big holiday where everyone is expected to go home? How do you handle the travel and the family pressure?
