Is 68 too late to start golf?

I watched the Masters this year, McIlroy winning again, and for the first time I thought: perhaps I would like to try this myself, not only watch it. My wife says I need a hobby that is not reading the news.

My concerns are my back, which is not what it was, and the cost. In Korea golf has a reputation for being expensive, and I do not want to buy a full set of clubs and then discover I hate it.

For those who started late, how did you begin? Lessons first, or the driving range? And are there injuries I should be careful of at my age?
