Met Gala 2026: 'Fashion is Art' brings Beyoncé, Rihanna and all four Blackpink members

The 2026 Met Gala took place on Monday, May 4, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, under the theme “Costume Art” and the dress code “Fashion is Art”, reported ABC News. The Met and its Costume Institute said the theme was meant to “celebrate fashion as an art form”. Guests included Beyoncé with Jay-Z and Blue Ivy Carter, Madonna, Sabrina Carpenter, Bad Bunny, Serena and Venus Williams and Anna Wintour.

Vogue Singapore said the exhibition, which pairs garments with artworks spanning 5,000 years, runs from May 10 to January 10, 2027, and named Nicole Kidman, in Chanel, as a co-chair. It highlighted Beyoncé in Olivier Rousteing, Naomi Osaka in Robert Wun and Lisa with 3D-printed arms. Its guest list included all four Blackpink members — Jennie, Jisoo, Rosé and Lisa — plus aespa's Karina and Ningning, Hoyeon, Ahn Hyo-seop, Eileen Gu and Karan Johar.

Khaleej Times focused on the artworks behind the outfits: Heidi Klum in latex made to “resemble carved marble”, after Raffaelle Monti's Veiled Vestal; Emma Chamberlain in hand-painted Mugler inspired by Van Gogh and Munch; Rihanna in Maison Margiela by Glenn Martens; and Anne Hathaway in Michael Kors hand-painted by artist Peter McGough. It also noted Isha Ambani wore over 1,800 carats of jewels.

How each outlet framed it

  • ABC News — the date, theme and a photo roll of arrivals.
  • Vogue Singapore — the exhibition, the co-chair and the K-pop and Asian guests.
  • Khaleej Times — best-dressed list explained through art references, plus an Indian angle.

Where the details differ: Vogue Singapore credited Chase Infiniti's look to McQueen, while Khaleej Times described a Thom Browne design with over one million sequins inspired by the Venus de Milo.
