How long is your commute, and would you take a pay cut to shorten it?

I have been doing some arithmetic I probably should not have done. My commute is 50 minutes each way, so about eight hours a week, which is roughly a full extra working day I am not paid for.

A pharmacy much closer to home offered me a position, but for about 8% less. My partner says it is obvious, take it. My mother says never take less money. I keep going back and forth.

I am curious how people in other countries think about this. Is a long commute just normal where you live, or is it something people actively try to avoid? And if you have made this kind of trade, did you regret it?
