Singapore imports most food, so both reasons in the news hit us

I read the grocery news. NPR says some prices move because of the product, like eggs or beef. BBC says fuel is a big reason too.

In Singapore we import most of our food. So for us, I think both are true at the same time. If something happens to eggs in another country, we feel it. If fuel or shipping costs go up, we also feel it.

Maybe this is why my mother always buys from many different countries, whichever is cheaper that week. Is it the same for other small or island countries?
