Summer is starting early here. Please check on your older neighbours

It's still May and we already had a few very hot days in Madrid. Every summer at the pharmacy I see older people who don't drink enough water, who keep the windows open at the hottest hours, or who are afraid to turn on the air conditioning because of the bill.

It doesn't take much. A knock on the door, a bottle of water, asking if they need anything from the shop. Some of them live alone and nobody would notice for days. Is this something people do where you live, or is it just a Mediterranean grandmother thing?
