Nvidia’s RTX Spark brings its chips to Windows laptops, and Intel and AMD shares fall

Nvidia unveiled RTX Spark, a chip combining a Blackwell RTX graphics processor with a 20-core Arm-based Grace CPU, at its GTC Taipei event on Monday 1 June, Bangladesh’s The Daily Star reports. Co-designed with Taiwan’s MediaTek, it offers up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 1 petaflop of AI performance, and Nvidia says it can run 120-billion-parameter language models locally. Laptops from Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft Surface and MSI are due this autumn, as thin as 14mm.

Nvidia and Microsoft pitched it for an “age of personal AI agents”, with a secure Windows environment that controls what agents can access, The Daily Star says. Yahoo Finance reports the graphics part is roughly in the class of an RTX 5070 laptop GPU, with no benchmarks or prices given; Nvidia does not expect supply limits despite the global memory shortage.

How each outlet framed it

  • Yahoo Finance — the market: Intel and AMD shares fell 6% and 5%, while Nvidia rose 4% and Microsoft 3%; it also notes Qualcomm’s Arm chips already power Windows laptops.
  • The Daily Star — the specs and partners, from Adobe rebuilding Photoshop and Premiere to game studios such as Krafton and Remedy.
  • Herald Corp — the Korean angle: Jensen Huang signed an SK hynix HBM4E wafer with “Please Make More” and inscribed an RTX Spark chip at MediaTek’s booth with “Spark of a new era”.

What we don't know yet: how much RTX Spark laptops will cost, and how they compare in independent tests.
