What's the most overrated stat in sports? I'll start: possession %
Data analyst here, so this keeps me up at night.
Possession percentage gets shown on every broadcast like it means dominance, but a team can have 70% possession passing sideways in its own half and lose 2-0 to a side that wanted them to have the ball.
Similar candidates: 'shots' without quality, batting average in baseball, and plus/minus in basketball over small samples.
Which stat do you think is overused? And which underused stat would you put on screen instead?
