Unpopular opinion: personal carbon footprint calculators are a distraction

The idea of a personal 'carbon footprint' was popularised by an oil company ad campaign. That alone should make people suspicious.

My lunch choices are not the problem. Power grids, building codes and industry are. Fix those and individual footprints drop automatically.
