Ubisoft's reset wipes almost 40% off its shares: six games cut, seven delayed, €1bn loss

Ubisoft shares have fallen by almost 40% since the company announced a restructuring on 21 January. PocketGamer.biz reported the stock went from €6.63 on 21 January to €3.99 by the end of 22 January, and stood around €4.03 on 26 January. Video Games Chronicle, citing CNBC, said shares dropped about 33% on the first morning to €4.36, the lowest level in just over 14 years.

The plan splits the company into five genre-based “Creative Houses”. Ubisoft cancelled six games, delayed seven and expects an operating loss of about €1 billion for the year ending March 2026, including a €650 million write-down, VGC said. It also targets another €200 million in fixed-cost cuts over two years. MobileSyrup said the only named cancellation is the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, which Ubisoft had said would release in early 2026; the rest are three new IPs and a mobile title.

“The portfolio refocus will have a significant impact on the group's short-term financial trajectory” — Yves Guillemot, via PocketGamer.biz

How each outlet framed it

  • Video Games Chronicle — the market shock, and a 95.9% fall from the July 2018 peak of €107.90.
  • PocketGamer.biz — the closures behind the slide, including the Halifax studio weeks after its team unionised, and job cuts in Abu Dhabi.
  • Outlook Respawn — the balance sheet: a €675 million bond maturing in 2027 and a company now valued at roughly €616 million.
  • MobileSyrup — the remake's troubled history, from Ubisoft Pune in 2020 to Montreal in 2022 and a restart in 2023.

What we don't know yet: Ubisoft gave no figure for job cuts. CFO Frederick Duguet said some staff will be moved to other projects and “some may leave the company”, VGC reported.
