PSA for anyone visiting Mexico for Día de Muertos this weekend

Some practical stuff from a local, because every year I see visitors get it slightly wrong. With love.

Cemeteries are not attractions. Families are there with their dead. You can visit, many families are happy to share, but ask before taking photos of people or graves. Don't step on graves. It sounds obvious. It is not obvious to some people.

The skull makeup is fine. Catrina face paint is everywhere and people like it. Just don't treat it as a party costume in a cemetery.

Pátzcuaro and Oaxaca get very busy. Book early, expect prices to go up.

Try pan de muerto. Every bakery has it. Eat it with hot chocolate. This part is the most important, honestly.
