If you ever visit Mexico right after an election and see everyone with a purple-black thumb, no, it's not a new fashion statement. It's the ink they put on you after you vote so you can't vote twice.

It stays for days. My abuela wears hers like a medal. Every year I tell her it's not a medal. Every year she ignores me.
