Valve prices the Steam Machine from $1,049, far above the $700–800 analysts expected

Valve has priced the Steam Machine, its SteamOS living-room PC, at $1,049 for a 512GB model and $1,349 for 2TB, well above the $700–800 range analysts widely expected, Hitmarker reported on 23 June. Bundles with the Steam Controller add $79, at $1,128 and $1,428. Valve says it sells the machine at cost rather than subsidising it, citing component costs, particularly RAM.

Instead of ordinary preorders, Valve is using a randomised reservation system meant to limit scalping and automated purchases. Hitmarker said eligible accounts must have made a Steam purchase before 27 April 2026, with one reservation per household. The machine uses a six-core semi-custom AMD Zen 4 CPU boosting to 4.8GHz, an RDNA 3 GPU with 28 compute units and 8GB of GDDR6, and 16GB of DDR5. UAE-based tbreak said the 2TB model ships with extra red fabric and solid walnut faceplates, and that Valve's original early-2026 plan was changed by memory and storage shortages.

How each outlet framed it

  • Hitmarker — the gap between price and expectations, plus the full specification sheet.
  • tbreak — a buyer's guide: no official UAE or Middle East pricing yet, and the Steam Frame headset still has no price or date.
  • Digital Citizen — a headline on confirmed prices ahead of 29 June shipping.

Where the numbers differ: Hitmarker gave a 30 June launch, with preorders opening on 25 June only for people picked in the draw. tbreak and Digital Citizen pointed to 29 June, with tbreak saying purchase invitations begin that day after Valve randomised the queue on 25 June at 1pm ET.
