thinking about claude guillemot today

Sad news. Claude Guillemot, one of the five brothers who started Ubisoft in 1986, died at 69 after a plane crash near La Baule-Escoublac airfield in western France. VGC said two people died in the crash.

What struck me reading the coverage is how much of his work happened behind the scenes. He wasn't the public face, he ran Guillemot Corporation, the accessories side. The brothers started out in agricultural sales in Brittany, and he started out selling CD audio media. It's a reminder of how many people build the things we play without us knowing their names.

My thoughts are with his family, and with the family of the other person who died.
