South Africa's June 30 'deadline' is not a joke and I'm worried

I usually come here to make dumb jokes but I read the GONOM post on the June 30 anti-migrant 'deadline' and there's nothing funny about it.

Shops shut, buses idle, people sleeping outside a Home Affairs office in Durban. And then in Alexandra, protesters 'arresting' people, including a Zimbabwean man who was there legally. Private citizens deciding who gets handed to police is a scary line to cross.

Ramaphosa apparently warned against blaming immigrants back on June 7. Didn't seem to land. Anyone here from SA or nearby who can tell us what it actually feels like on the ground?
