Ubisoft: no other Assassin's Creed remake in development after Black Flag Resynced
Ubisoft has said it has no other Assassin's Creed remake in development, following its remake of Black Flag. GameSpot reported the statement on 29 October.
“One thing we want to be transparent about today is that we currently have no other Assassin's Creed remake actively in development.” — Ubisoft, via GameSpot
Ubisoft added that its teams are “already focused on the next chapter of Assassin's Creed titles, including projects you haven't heard about”. GameSpot noted that Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced sold very well, which had led many to expect more remakes. Eurogamer called the statement “quite a big surprise”; two days earlier it had covered Resynced's final major update, which added New Game Plus and a new Nightmare difficulty.
IGN put the emphasis on what comes next: more Assassin's Creed games are on the way, but players should not expect remakes like Black Flag Resynced any time soon.
How each outlet framed it
- GameSpot — “pumping the brakes”: why a successful remake isn't being followed by another.
- Eurogamer — the surprise, after a well-supported remake reached its last big patch.
- IGN — the reassurance: new games, just not remakes.
What we don't know yet: whether remakes could return later. Ubisoft's statement said “currently”, and gave no names or timeline for its new projects.
