Working parents: how does your country handle 10+ weeks of school holidays?

School is out here in Spain from late June to early September, and every year it's the same puzzle for working parents: grandparents, summer camps, swapping shifts with colleagues, and a lot of guilt.

I'm curious how other countries manage. Are summer holidays shorter where you are? Does the state help with childcare, or is it all on families?
